How To Delete Cookies

Cookies are used by a Web browser to save information about how you view your Web pages. For instance, they may contain logon information for a particular Website, and information regarding customized Web pages. You may want to delete cookies, if you are having problems in displaying certain Web pages on your system. For this, it is recommended that you first export the cookies to another system and then delete them.

Note: The steps listed here enable you to delete cookies only for one user. Therefore, if you have multiple users configured on your system, you will have to repeat the steps listed here for each user.

  1. In the Internet Explorer window, open File menu, and then select the Import and Export command.
  2. Select the Next button, and then on the Import/Export Selection page, choose Export Cookies and then select the Next button.
  3. Specify the file or application to which you want to export the cookies and then select the Next button.
  4. Finally, select the Finish button to export the cookies.

Steps to manually delete cookies from your Internet Explorer 7

After you have exported the cookies, you can delete them by performing the following steps:

  1. Close all Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Explorer windows.
  2. Open the Start menu, select Run, type in inetcpl.cpl, and then select OK.
  3. Next, on the General tab of the Internet Properties dialog box that opens, select the Delete button that is there in the Browsing History section.
  4. Next, in the Delete Browsing History dialog box that opens, select the Delete Cookies button and then select the Yes.

Steps to manually verify that the cookies have been deleted

  • Open the Internet Properties dialog box by running the inetcpl.cpl command.
  • Next, on the General tab, select the Settings button in the Browsing History section.
  • In the Temporary Internet Files and History Settings dialog box that is displayed, select the View Files button to open the folder in which cookies are stored on your system.
  • Ensure that no .txt file exists in this folder.
