Access Denied Error When Trying to Open or Save an Office File

The following error message maybe displayed on your computer, when you try to open or save a file using one of the Microsoft Office 2007 programs. After displaying the error, the program quits unexpectedly.

Causes of the Error

This error occurs, when:

  • You try to open or save a file to a redirected folder, which has been set by Group Policy.
  • The Read Attributes permission are not set for you in the parent folder of the redirected folder.

Resolution Steps

To resolve the error, provide different user groups the following permissions to the parent folder of the redirected folder:

    1. Provide “ Enterprise administrators” Full Control rights.
    2. Provide “Domain administrators” Full Control rights.
    3. Provide "Authenticated users Traverse Folder / Execute File, List Folder / Read Data, and Read Attributes.
