Create a Windows Vista Password Reset Disk

Windows Vista Password Reset disk is useful to create a new password in case you forget the password of your Windows Vista user account.

Warning : Because the password reset disk can be used by anybody to reset your password and gain access to your computer it is important that you keep it in safe location.

Steps to create a password setup disk in Windows Vista

  1. Obtain a writable removable media, such as a floppy disk or a USB flash drive.
  2. Open Start menu, in the Start Search box type Control Userpasswords, and in the Programs list select Control Userpasswords.
  3. SelectCreate a Password Reset Disk, in the Tasks list to launch the Forgotten Password Wizard .
  4. Insert or connect your removable media in the appropriate drive and then click Next.
  5. On the Create a Password Reset Disk page, specify the drive in which the password reset disk needs to be created and then click the Next button.
  6. Type the password for the user account in the Current user account password box, and then click Next.

    Note: Leave the field blank, if you do not use any password.

  7. After the process completes, on the Creating Password Reset Disk page click Next, and then Finish to exit the dialog box.
  8. Finally, close all open dialog boxes on the computer, take out the reset disk, label it, and keep it in a safe place.
