Method 3: Uninstall Failed Product using the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

Microsoft has developed the Windows Installer Cleanup utility to enable users to remove the Windows Installer configuration information of a program that was installed using the Windows Installer tool on your computer.

Most of the times, you need to clean up Windows installer configuration information of a program when you encounter problems during the program installation. For example, you may want to clear the Windows Installer configuration information of your Microsoft Office suite, when you face problem while adding or removing a component from it.

Steps to Use Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

  1. Double-click on the downloaded “msicuu2.exe” file to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility and then follow the wizard to proceed with the installation.
  2. Next, open Start menu and then select the Windows Install Clean up command.
  3. In the displayed Windows Installer Clean Up dialog box, select the program or programs for which you want to clean the installation configuration.
  4. Select Remove.

All Windows Installer configuration files and registry entries for the programs will be removed from the system.

Note : When you use the utility remove the Windows Installer configuration information of a program, and then you reinstall the program on your computer, you must install the program in the same folder in which it was installed earlier. This will help you prevent duplication of program files on your computer’s hard disk. .

Additional Information

You cannot perform the following tasks using the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:

  • Uninstall the Windows Installer tool.
  • Remove file of programs, such as Microsoft Office 2003 that were installed using the Windows Installer.
