Installation Problems
Windows Live OneCare installation problems usually occur when one or more components of the product are not installed properly on your computer. Discussed here are the methods that you can use to resolve the Windows Live OneCare installation problems.
Method 1: Uninstall any other third-party firewall or antivirus programs from your computer.
- Open Control Panel and select the Add or Remove Programs link, or open Start menu, select Run, type appwiz.cpl , and then press Enter.
- In the Currently installed programs list, search for third-party firewalls or antivirus programs.
- Select the program you need to remove and then select the Change/Remove or Remove button.
- Reboot your system and then start the Windows Live OneCare installation again.
- Repeat the steps for all unwanted programs on the system.
Method 2: Remove and then reinstall the MSXML subsystem
Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) comprises a set of services that enable programmers to create applications using different development tools, such as VBscript, Jscript and other Microsoft tools.
If you have the MSXML subsystem installed on your computer, you may encounter Windows Live OneCare installation problems.
To resolve this, first uninstall and then reinstall MSXML subsystem by performing the steps listed below:
- Open Control Panel and select the Add or Remove Programs link, or open Start menu, select Run, type appwiz.cpl , and then press Enter.
- In the Currently installed programs list, search for MSXML Parser .
- Select the program and then select the Remove button.
- Reboot your system.
- Click the link given below and then download and install MSML 4.0 SP2 on your computer.
Note : This version of MSXML completely replaces MSXML 4.0 and MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) .

Note : If you encounter any errors in the process, note them down.
- Reboot your system and then start the Windows Live OneCare installation again.
Method 3: Uninstall the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 and then reinstall It
The Microsoft .NET Framework is a Microsoft Windows operating system component that comprises a huge library of pre-coded solutions to several .program requirements. The .Net Framework also manages the execution of those programs that are written for the framework.
While troubleshooting Windows Live OneCare installation problems uninstall and then reinstall .NET Framework 2.0 by performing the following steps:
- Open Control Panel and select the Add or Remove Programs link, or open Start menu, select Run, type appwiz.cpl , and then press Enter.
- In the Currently installed programs list, search for the following entries:
- Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
- Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Beta
Note : You may find either one or both the entries.
- If you find one or both the .NET entries, select them one-by-one and then select Change/Remove to uninstall them.
- Reboot your Windows computer.
- Click the link given below to download and install Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 on your computer.

- Reboot your system and then start the Windows Live OneCare installation again.
Method 4: Stop and then Start the Windows Installer Service
Open Control Panel, select Performance and Maintenance, select Administrative Tools and then select Services, or open Start menu, select Run, type services.msc , and then press Enter.
- In the Services window, double-click on Windows Installer to display its properties box.
- In the Service status section, click the Start button (if the service is stopped), and if the service is already started, then first click the Stop button and the click Start.
- Next, click the OK button to close the properties dialog box.
- Exit the Services windows, reboot your system, and then start the Windows Live OneCare installation again.
Method 5: Start your Windows XP computer in Selective Startup mode
- Open Start menu, select Run, type services.msc , and then press Enter.
- On the General tab, do the following:
- Select the Selective Startup option.
- Clear the Load Startup Items check box.
- On the Services tab, do the following:
- Select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box.
- Clear the check boxes of all the remaining services.
- Click the OK button, and then click the Restart button in the message box displayed to restart your computer.
- Start the Windows Live OneCare installation again.
- After the installation is complete, reboot your system, open the System Configuration utility again and then select the Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services option.
- Finally, select OK and then select Restart to reboot your computer.
