Digital Locker

Windows Marketplace introduces the digital locker that helps you purchase and download several software programs from many different resellers. All your purchase information and products keys are saved in the digital locker. This helps you backup and reinstall your software from a single location.

To open your digital locker, on the Windows Marketplace Web site, select the Sign In link located at top-right, and then sign in using your Windows Live ID.

Note: If you don’t have a Windows Live ID, you will have to create it, in order to be able to access your digital locker.

Software Purchase Using Digital Locker

Digital locker simplifies the task of selecting and purchasing your software by enabling you to:

  • Browse and select from a large range of software listed by different sellers.
  • Easily download selected products.
  • Easily install, create backup CDs, and manage software licenses with the help of digital locker assistant.
  • Search for software support provides by the seller from whom you purchase your product.

To select and purchase software using your digital locker, perform the following steps:

  1. On Windows Marketplace Web site, search and locate the software you want to purchase.
  2. Click the title of the software you select to display the product detail page.
  3. Select the ADD TO CART button to add the software to your Shopping Cart.

    Note: The Shopping Cart will contain the titles of all software until you check out. You can display your Shopping Cart from any Windows Marketplace Web page by selecting the View Cart link located on top-right corner of all pages.

  4. Next, to proceed with the purchase, select the tile of the software you want to buy in your Shopping Cart and then click the Checkout button.

    If you have not signed in until now, you will be prompted to sign in to your digital locker. You can do this by using your Windows Live ID. If you do not have one, you can register for one by selecting the Sign Up Now button on the right.

  5. Provide your billing information.
  6. If you want to save the billing information for future transactions through digital locker, select the Allow Marketplace to save this billing information in your account check box.
  7. Finally select the Download Now button to download your software.
  8. Select one of the following download methods:
      • Browser File Download tool
      • Digital Locker Assistant

    Note: Digital Locker Assistant is an easy-to-install tool and you can use it every time you download software from Windows Marketplace.

  9. There are two download methods: with your Web browser's download tool (click User my Web browser), or with the digital locker assistant.

Note: The digital locker assistant is easy to install and simplifies software downloads through digital locker.

 

Modify Digital Locker Preferences and Credit Card Details

If you want to modify your download preferences and add your credit card details, perform the following steps:

  1. On the Windows Marketplace Web page select the Sign In link located at top-right corner of the page, and then sign in using your Windows Live ID to open your digital locker,.
  2. Select the Profile tab.
  3. In the Preferences section on the right specify your default download method and then save them.
  4. In the Account Credit Cards section, enter your credit card details and then select the Add Credit Card button.

 E-mail ID Validation

If you are prompted to validate your e-mail ID to be able to claim your software, on your digital locker page, open the Your Software tab. Here, select the Confirm E-mail Address or Validate E-mail link.

In the confirmation message box, check your e-mail ID and then select the Here link on the message box. This will display the Profile page with the Your e-mail address has been confirmed message.

 

Software License Information

You may usually need to view the software license information when trying to reinstall the purchased software or to seek product support from the seller.

You can get this information on the Your Software tab in your digital locker.

 

Archiving your software

All the software you purchase is listed on the Your Software tab in your digital locker. In case, you want delete a few items from this list, but want to save the software information for future, you can archive them. For this, select the Send to Archive link located next to the software listing you want to archive and remove.

Your software will now be shifted to archive. In order to view the archived items, open the Archive tab in your digital locker.

Adding information for software you already own to the digital locker

If you want to maintain a record of all the software you own (even the ones you already own and have not purchased from Windows Marketplace) in single place, perform the following steps:

  1. Open your digital locker and sign in to it using your Windows Live ID.
  2. Open the Your Software tab.
  3. To add the software you already own, click the Add link for the Would you like to add software you already own to your digital locker? option.
  4. On the Add to digital locker page provide the following details about the product you want to add:
    1. Product title or name
    2. Download URL and its details
    3. License information
    4. Additional details related to the software.
  5. Finally, click the Save button to add the information to your digital locker.

 

Download, Install and Use The digital Locker Assistant

You may choose to install the Digital Locker Assistant on your computer to simplify the task of downloading and installing software you purchase using your Windows Marketplace digital locker.

Note: This tool is not a compulsory and has been developed only to simply the task of accessing and downloading the products you purchase.

To install digital locker assistant, perform the following steps:

  1. On the confirmation page that displays after you select to download your purchased software, select Install the Digital Locker Assistant.
  2. When you receive the prompt asking, Do you want to run or save this file? select Run.
  3. On Installation Complete page appears, select Close.


Using the Digital Locker Assistant

To start Digital Locker Assistant on your computer after installation, double-click its shortcut icon on Desktop.

    • In the Digital Locker Assistant window that opens, up will be to view status of and track all software you currently downloaded.
    • The application helps multiple downloads by creating a software queue and enables you to work on your system even when a download is going on in the background
    • The tool also helps you in resuming a previously stopped or interrupted download.
    • After the download completes, the tool verifies it to ensure that the downloaded software is complete and error-free.
    • Being linked to digital locker, the Digital Locker Assistant, simplifies the task of managing and downloading the software you buy using the digital locker.
    • All downloaded software is saved in the Digital Locker Downloads folder that is created in the Documents or My Documents.
    • If you want to backup a purchased software on a CD, insert a blank writable CD in your CD driver, open the Digital Locker Assistant, and then select Create Back-up CD.
