How To Burn a Customized CD
One of the most significant features of Windows Media Player is that you can use the software to burn customized audio CDs comprising various songs from song library in your Windows Media Player software. After burning the CD, you can play and enjoy the songs burned on it on wide variety of CD players including the one in your car, your home stereo system, and your portable CD player. You can even enjoy the audio on your computer.
Requirements to Burn Customized CDs
- A CD recorder drive—also known as compact disc-recordable (CD-R) drive, compact disc-rewriteable (CD-RW) drive, or CD burner—that is compatible with Windows XP.
- A blank writeable CD or CD-R.
Steps to Burn a Customized Audio CD
- In the Windows Media Player window, select the Burn tab, click on its down-arrow, and then select the Audio option.
- Insert a blank CD-R into your CD-Recorder drive.
Note : In case, moltiple CD-Recorder drives are installed on your PC, then if you need to change the recorder selected by defaolt to another recorder, select the Next Drive option given in the List pane that exists above the playlist. Keep clicking until the drive you want to use is selected.
- Next, drag the songs, albums, and playlists you want to burn from the Details pane and drop them in the List pane to build the list of files, you want to burn. In case, you want clear the already existing list, select the Clear List pane button.
Tip : Usually the Media Player automatically calcolates the empty space—in minutes and seconds—that is remaining on the Disc every time you add a song to the burn list. However, at times, the Media Player may fail to accurately calcolate the number of songs that can fit on a disc, especially when it is unable to determine the duration of a few songs. This is the reason why, it is recommended that before you start burning, play the songs in your burn list, and enable the Media Player to accurately find out the time of each song.
- In case, you want to add a file that is not in your library, but exists on your PC, right-click on the file and select the Add to Burn List command.
- If the selected files exceed the number you can fit on one disk, you can take one of the following two actions:
- Remove a few songs from the list: For this, right-click on the file you want to remove and then select the Remove from List command. Repeat the step for all files you want to remove. Performing this task will only remove the files from the burn list and not from the Media Player library.
- Burn on moltiple CDs: If you are keen on burning all songs that you have selected, then you can choose to burn the media on moltiple CDs
Tip: At times, it may happen that the last song in your burn list cannot be accommodated on the CD—even if the burn list comprises total time that is exactly equal to the CD length. This occurs because while burning the songs on the disk, the Media Player inserts two seconds between each song.
- After you have created your burn list, order your files in the sequence you want them to appear on the CD, by dragging them up and down. If you are burning on moltiple discs, it is a good idea to sequence the songs in such a way that they are burned on the CD you want them to be in.
- After you are through with ordering and sequencing, select the Start Burn button available at the bottom of the List pane to copy the files to the CD-R. If you choose to burn on moltiple CDs, you will have to insert a blank CD in the CD-Recorder drive after Media Player finishes writing on the first CD and then select the Start Burn option. Keep repeating the process until you complete burning all your songs.
Tip: To ensure error-free burning, it is recommended that you avoid performing any other tasks on your PC while the burn process is running. Also, remember that you will not be able to add more songs to the CD after the burning is complete—even if there is some space on the disc.
