Unable to View, Add, or Delete Items in Windows Media Player 11 Library
You may encounter one or more of the following problems if the library database of your Windows Media Player 11 is damaged or has become corrupt:
- Unable to view, add or remove item from the library.
- Encounter error messages about Media Player library being corrupt.
- Changes done by using the Apply media information changes option are not applied and reflected and the progress indicator does not display.
The database of Window Media Player 11 library is more robust than the database of earlier versions. This database helps you store comprehensive information about your digital media, including their name, location, associated images, and ID3 and WMA tags.
On Windows XP, database is stored at %userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player
On Windows Vista, this database is located at %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player
The above listed problems may occur, when, just like any other database, the Media Player database or the information stored in it becomes corrupted. Most of the times, the Media Player recovers automatically. However, if it fails to do so, then i n order to fix these problems, you will have to clear the contents of the Windows Media Player 11 library database. You do so by performing the steps listed below:
- On a Windows XP system, open Start menu, select Run, in the Open box type %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click on the OK button. If you are on a Windows Vista system, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player at Start > Run and then select OK.
- Select and delete all the files contained in the Media Player folder that opens.
- Now, restart your Media Player 11 application. When you do so, the program will automatically rebuild a new database.
