Unable to Search For New Updates

You may receive an error message similar to one given below when you try to search new Windows Vista updates.

Windows could not search for new updates
Error(s) found:
Code 80072F8F

This error is usually displayed when the date and time of your PC are a lot different from the actual, valid date and time. Now, as the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) of the Windows Update Website contains the valid date and time, the update scan operation fails to scan your system with invalid date and time settings for updates and generates the error.

To resolve the issue, you need to verify the date and time settings of your Windows Vista PC and set them to correct time if the current settings are invalid. To do this, perform the following steps:
  1. Open Start menu, in the Start Search, box type Date and Time, and then in the displayed Program list, select the Date and Time option.
  2. If prompted, supply the administrator password and the select Continue to proceed.
  3. Finally, in the Date and Settings dialog box that is displayed, specify the valid date and time, and then select OK to apply your settings and exit the dialog box.
You must now be able to search for and install latest updates on your system.
